Nestled in the heart of Oregon's renowned Willamette Valley, Eyrie Vineyards stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit and dedication to excellence that has shaped the region's winemaking heritage.

A Legacy of Innovation

Founded in 1965 by David Lett, Eyrie Vineyards holds the distinguished honor of being the first winery in the Willamette Valley and the first to plant Pinot Noir in the region. Lett's visionary approach and unwavering commitment to quality set the stage for a legacy that continues to thrive under the stewardship of his son, Jason Lett. The name "Eyrie," meaning a bird of prey's nest, reflects the winery's high-altitude vineyard sites and its pioneering spirit.

Eyrie Vineyards' portfolio showcases a range of varietals, with Pinot Noir being the undisputed star. Their Pinot Noirs are celebrated for their finesse, complexity, and age-worthiness, offering a captivating bouquet of red fruit, earth, and spice. The Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and other varietals also reflect the winery's dedication to crafting wines of exceptional quality and distinctiveness.

The Terroir: A Symphony of Nature

The Willamette Valley is celebrated for its unique combination of climate, soil, and topography, which create the ideal conditions for cultivating world-class Pinot Noir. Eyrie Vineyards' five estate vineyards are situated on gentle south-facing slopes at elevations ranging from 260 to 870 feet. The diverse microclimates within these sites contribute to the complexity and depth of their wines.

The soils, primarily Jory and Nekia, are volcanic in origin, providing excellent drainage and a rich mineral content that imparts distinctive characteristics to the grapes. The cool, maritime-influenced climate ensures a long growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop nuanced flavors while maintaining balanced acidity.

Sustainable Winemaking Practices

Eyrie Vineyards' commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of their winemaking process. They employ organic farming methods, eschewing synthetic chemicals in favor of natural alternatives to maintain the health and vitality of their vineyards. This approach not only preserves the environment but also enhances the purity and expression of the fruit.

Hand-harvesting is a hallmark of their meticulous viticultural practices, ensuring that only the finest grapes are selected. In the winery, minimal intervention is the guiding principle. Native yeasts are used for fermentation, and the wines are aged in neutral oak barrels to allow the true character of the fruit to shine through. This gentle, hands-off approach results in wines that are elegant, balanced, and reflective of their unique terroir.
